ABSTRACT

Technological advances and established clinical techniques described in this

book, as well as those currently under investigation, will each in some way

redefine our approach to understanding and treating body fat. At one end of the

body-shaping spectrum (Fig. 6.1) are conventional surgical procedures like

abdominoplasty and liposuction, which have historically been the centerpiece to

dramatic body contouring and which will likely remain the criterion standard for

many years to come. On other end of the spectrum are novel light and energy

sources (1) as well as injectable methods aimed at reducing and perfecting the

curves on our bodies.
